My next show is the Chester Arts Fair at Chester Racecourse from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 November. I'll be showing some of my latest original work, plus some recent limited edition prints...a fantastic, way to enjoy my work in your home. It's an exciting show with over 120 artists and galleries represented, plus a selection of artist demonstrations, talks etc and free parking. It's a fabulous opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of contemporary art...and with the venue being only just outside the city walls, you can easily walk into the historic city for culture...or Christmas shopping! Contact me if you'd like free tickets.
Just after that is my Art - Spiced Up show at the Mix at the Platform Gallery in Clitheroe. This one man show runs from 29 November to 2 December alongside the fabulous Northern Stars Craft Exhibition. I'll be demonstrating my painting techniques in the gallery and, as ever, very keen to chat to you about your art interests. Again, you can see a range of recent original work, plus limited edition print, unique artist's cards and 2019 Calendars...
Lots to report...my studio is now part of Atelier Arts...we still have the same location, but there's new signage, a super new website, and we've just re-decorated. We're open every Tuesday and Saturday, and of course by appointment.
In addition, my wife, Frankie and I have opened a studio (Caban Celf Ty Gwyn Art Cabin) in the garden at her place in Morfa Nefyn on the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales.
If you follow my Instagram feed, you'll know that I'm producing a number of canvases just now inspired by some of my artistic 'heroes' - Kandinsky, Cezanne, Peploe etc... It's fascinating and something I'm learning a great deal from...
Finally, I'll be exhibiting at the Platform Gallery from Friday 10- Sunday 12 August...it's called A Feast for Your Eyes (to go with the Food Festival on Saturday!).
Priorities are to complete three commissions, one of a beautiful house in Cheshire, and two of a historic village outside Rome! Lots of challenges, and inspiring too...
I'm planning to continue the adventure of colour that developed steadily last year...more adventurous, more abstracted, more everything!
Following on from last October's set designs for Aladdin for one of our local drama groups, I'll be doing one of the backcloths for a production of Calamity Jane.

I'm looking forward to my solo stand at Chester Arts Fair in November. I've got a small collection of work at the Howarth Gallery in Burnley. December sees my Festival of Colour solo show at the Platform Gallery in Clitheroe.
It's exhibition season! I'm looking forward to my solo stands at Art in the Pen, Thirsk in July and Chester Arts Fair in November. Also I'm in collaboration with a wide range of artists at Picture House and StormArt just now, and Legacy Arts in July...it's great...
I'm looking forward to a busy start to 2017, with 2 large commissioned canvases to complete of the Ribble Valley. Additionally I'm continuing on the commission of sailing boats on Burwain (Foulridge) Reservoir.
The Chester Arts Fair was a great success, with several large canvases (including Bowland Clouds and Ebb Tide, Pwllheli) purchased by new clients...and at least one commission to be completed in the New Year.
I've moved into my new studio at Ribble Valley Artists Studios...it's great to be working in a space with artists with shared interests, and contrasting ways of working. Busy experimenting with an adapted way of underpainting using deep primaries...and predominantly large (metre square) canvases... Also developing selling on this site...
Check out my work on-line (especially http://www.artgallery.co.uk/artist/dermod_ruddock_2) plus developing commissions - please enquire at email@example.com if this is of interest to you. I'm also available for demonstrations of art techniques to art clubs...
Summer 2015 Exhibitions
Thanks to everyone who has visited the Haworth Gallery, Accrington, the Beauly Gallery or the Steward's Gallery, Clitheroe. All the exhibitions are still on until the end of September if you've not got there yet...
I switched to painting professionally, with new work, predominantly my signature 'expressive realist' landscapes, coming available regularly. Work can also be viewed on my Facebook page, Dermod Ruddock - Fine Artist...please have a look and share.
Dermod's recent work continues to be dynamic, colourful and very expressionistic - much in the way of artists who he sees as major influences - Kandinsky, Matisse, Franz Marc, Karl Schmidt-Rotluff, Gabrielle Munter, amongst others.
A development this summer has been a number of 'plein-air' watercolour studies, which have a tremendous immediacy about them. Also featured are his recently completed oil paintings, all bursting with life, on deep canvases with the image going right onto the edges. These frame beautifully, especially 'floated' into chunky off-white frames...
